Tomatoes from Our Compost Pile

July 23, 2013

Every day we pick about a dozen cherry tomatoes from a plant growing in our compost pile.  Even though these tomatoes are not quite as sweet as the SunSugar cherry tomatoes from the plant in our garden, I enjoy knowing this tomato plant volunteered to feed our family!

It is exciting to pick tomatoes from the plant growing out of our compost pile.

I am more of a passive compost pile builder.  My notion is to build individual piles during the season without actively turning the pile to speed the process.  I am satisfied to use my compost next year.  Our primary ingredients are fresh kitchen scraps and old straw.  I also mix in some Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Garden Soil to help the process.  Click here to see how I build my pile.
