Our Vegetable Garden Update

June 8, 2011

We are learning the ins and outs of vegetable gardening here in Georgia. With a long string of 90 degree plus days our 6 Yukon Gold Potato plants started their exit. We dug one of our plants last week to discover a very nice harvest of 7 potatoes. Yesterday we harvested the remaining 5 plants giving us a bounty of 28 nice size potatoes and a number of small ones.

We were especially pleased with the improvement in our soil texture. We owe the improvement to the Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Garden Soil we mixed into our red Georgia clay when we planted. If we incorporate fresh Miracle-Gro Garden Soil each time we plant our soil will get better and better.  We also fed our plants with Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Plant Food. We used straw for our mulch.

We are now getting a steady supply of squash, cucumbers, green beans, onions and wide range of herbs. The spinach, lettuce, arugula, collards, swiss chard, and kale have about run their course. The peppers, tomatoes and sweet potatoes are growing strong. We can’t wait for the first pick.
